WiFi Connections with UofM Secure and Eduroam on Mac OS 10.10 (Yosemite) After upgrading the MAC OS 10.10 (Yosemite) some users have experienced trouble with campus WiFi connections with UofM Secure and Eduroam. This issue seems to be a common issue with the upgrade nationwide and there are several support groups commenting about these issues. Most users on campus have resolved this by deleting both WiFi networks from the MAC system and then re-connecting and re-learning the networks. OIT Network Engineers continue to work with Apple to find a resolution to this issue.

WiFi work planned; brief disruptions may occur On Tuesday, Dec. 30 between 10 p.m.–midnight, network technicians will perform work to improve reliability and stability issues to the WiFi network. The work is not expected to negatively impact service, and there will be a very brief outage of approximately two minutes while the system restarts. Continuing expanded coverage and growth of the WiFi network has resulted in increased interference, causing some end-user devices to struggle to connect to the WiFi system. The work involves minimizing the use of some channels in saturated locations, and adjusting bandwidth ranges used by older devices to allow more bandwidth for newer devices. All network-ready devices still will work, but because the changes will reduce the basic maximum connection rate, some users may experience slower connection rates.

Last night engineers successfully added one new authentication server to provide an additional 30 percent capacity for the wifi and VPN authentication problems. This additional server significantly improved the authorization process. This evening we added three additional authentication servers. Once those were deemed functioning well we removed the original three old servers that were causing authentication instabilities.
